The Full Story
From Provence to the Pacific.
Hi, I'm Maggie.
The first time I ate a meal in the French countryside, the tomatoes had been on the vine an hour earlier. I couldn't get over how fresh and delicious such a simple dish could be. Neither could I stop thinking about the garden itself: rows of lettuce tucked between roses, herbs spilling over the paths. It was as pretty as any landscaped yard and it fed the whole house.
That's a potager: a kitchen garden where flowers and food, beauty and harvest, grow side by side. You don't have to choose between a picturesque yard and one that feeds you.
San Diego might be the best place in the country to have a potager. We can harvest something nearly every day of the year, yet many of us are still watering lawns! So, I started Coastal Potager. I've grown and sold my own produce, seedlings, and pesto at a farmstand, and I'm building a new kitchen garden from scratch right now (you can follow along on Instagram).
I've also been a teacher for 16 years, which deeply shapes my work; you don't need to know anything about soil or seeds to start. Whether we work one-on-one, in a workshop, or virtually, I'll meet you where you are and help you build a garden that fits your life.
Fair warning: once you've eaten a tomato you grew yourself, the grocery store ones are ruined for you.
Let's get our hands dirty together.
Cheers,
Maggie
